YRLNG (Gilles Aubry) – Live electronics + short film

 Rbia, Harsha, Cinta – Live performance for modular synth and electronics

 YRLNG is a new project by Gilles Aubry dedicated to ambient and abstract electronic music. The album Rbia, Harsha, Cinta was released on Antibody in June 2024 and features eight tracks of haunting voices and analog textures. Described by BBC3's Late Junction as a « dark hymn for endangered seaweed species », the album is a reworking of Aubry's 2022 experimental film Atlantic Ragagar. In live, YRLNG improvises on modular synths using material from the album.

Atlantic Ragagar (Gilles Aubry, 2022, HD, 31'40'')

Shot in collaboration with biologist Younes Boundir, Atlantic Ragagar is an experimental film on seaweed and pollution on the Moroccan Atlantic coast. The film is an attempt to listen to coastal life through the voice and bodily presence of performer Iman Zoubai. As she hums, sings, breathes, and silently interacts with algae, a new figure progressively emerges, “maouj”, an aquatic body open to transcorporeal and interspecies speculations. The film received a special mention at Ji Hlava Film Festival 2022.

Gilles Aubry works between sound and visual arts, experimental music, and academic research. His practice relies on experimental research methods and transdisciplinary knowledge from across the arts, humanities, and technology studies, including film, composition, field recording, performance, installation, radio art, curation, and participative interventions. His works have been showcased at numerous international art institutions and festivals, including Impulse Festival Leipzig (2023), Sea Art Festival Busan (2023), Rewire Festival The Hague (2023), Norient Festival Bern (2023), TENT Rotterdam (2022), Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF 2021), Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid (2020), Mosaic Rooms London (2019), House Of World Cultures HKW Berlin (2018), Casablanca Art Biennale (2018), Tuned City Festival (2018), documenta_14 in Kassel (2017), café Oto London (2017), Kontraste Festival Krems (2011), and GRM Paris (2010).
